Cruel is a two act scenic show choreographed by Ebert Ortiz and it is based on the political novel of dystopian fiction by George Orwell "1984" that analyses the evolution of humankind from its early stages through the birth of its consciousness, concluding with an introspective of its innermost thoughts and beliefs. Born in Tonala Chiapas, Mexico, Ebert Ortiz is an integral part of the emergent generation of Mexican choreographers and a key component of the performing arts scene in Tijuana, Baja California. His work offers the audience a wider range of projects ranging from modern dance, ballet, theatre, music and other artistic expressions. His nonhierarchical vision of movement and body language are the basis of his artistic approach.
