Monuments to Main Street 2019 is Here!

How do you like the sound of hiking the dunes under the glow of the full moon, sipping the best local wines during harvest season, or sampling the world’s best chile? Maybe enjoying the work of local artists, watching the latest in environmental films, checking out a spicy fiesta or hanging out at a good old State Fair and Rodeo is more your style?  September in Las Cruces serves up all of that and more. 

Monuments to Mainstreet is Las Cruces’ epic month-long celebration of nature, history, festivals, local flavor and the great outdoors. With over 64+ events in just 30 days, there are lots of reasons to get out and explore, experience and enjoy the best of Southern New Mexico.

FESTIVALS, CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT

Enjoy a high energy fiesta celebrating our heritage and traditions? You’re in luck this month with three great festivals full of fun, excitement and entertainment. The party heads to the great outdoors too with a festival on Picacho Mountain featuring everything you love about being outdoors. Watch majestic and beautifully colored hot air balloons rise above the White Sands as you enjoy great music and entertainment.

Monuments to Main Street Kick Off Fiesta - September 8

Monuments to Main Street officially kicks off with a one-of-a-kind Fiesta. This FREE fiesta takes place at Klein Park in the heart of the historic Mesquite District and features live music from Nosotros, Stagecoach trolley rides, cooking, storytelling, demonstrations, fun and games open to everyone. See you at the fiesta!

Diez Y Seis Septiembre Fiesta - Mesilla - September 14 and 15

Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with the whole family in Historic Mesilla Plaza. This annual fiesta features live music, rides, food and games. Get there early to see the parade starting at 11am on Avenida de Mesilla.

La Gran Fiesta - September 20 and 21

Experience a night of environmental and adventure films. They may just inspire the activist in you!

White Sands Balloon and Music Fest - September 7 and 8

Watch the majestic and colorful hot air balloons soar over the white dunes of White Sands National Monument. This year's fest features over 30 balloons from around the world, hours of live music, a 5K Fun Run/Walk, food, beer and more. A truly unique and amazing event.

Picacho Mountain Outdoor Festival and 5K Fun Run & Walk - September 21 and 22

This is a weekend of all things outdoors! Kick it off with a 5K fun run, and enjoy a full day of outdoor activities including outdoor product demos, jeep tours to Box Canyon, and guided hiking tours. Enjoy the Chili Rellenos cook-off, music and more. And come back Sunday for Cowboy Country Day. Stagecoach rides, horseback rides, Native American dancing and drumming, and a great steak dinner.  (Order dinner tickets in advance).

FAMILY FUN

Head outdoors and beat those back to school blues with your annual visit to the corn maze, picking just perfect pumpkin and a day at the State Fair and Rodeo.

Mesilla Valley Corn Maze - September 28 and 29

When it comes to fall family fun, the Mesilla Valley Corn Maze and pumpkin patch is a staple. Navigate your way through the giant corn maze, pick that special pumpkin or take a hayride. Family fun at its best!

Southern New Mexico State Fair & Rodeo - September 25 - 29

Round ‘em up cowboy! The tradition continues. Five days of great state fair and rodeo fun. Livestock shows, musical entertainment, rodeo, petting zoo, entertainment including Street Drum Corps, Kent Family Circus, juggler, amusement rides, fair food and more.

Come on out and how your crimson and support for your Aggies! Kick it off with a tailgate party, and see what NMSU sports are all about.

Art Ramble

Every Friday of the month downtown Las Cruces fills with artists and art-lovers. Our gallery owners welcome you, and display new collections and exhibits. Stroll around town and get familiar with our local art scene, then grab a bite from one of our many great local spots.

THE GREAT SOUTHERN NEW MEXICAN OUTDOORS

When it comes to the great outdoors Southern New Mexico has it call. And there is no better time than September to experience it at its best. Our outdoors and adrenaline junkies will want to try their hand at the Bikepacking and Stargazing Campout, or an entry in the Horny Toad Hustle Mountain Bike Racing or Mesilla River Run and Inner Tube Rafting on the Rio Grande. If your outdoor style is more mild than wild, join in the White Sands National Monument Sunset Stroll. 

Our history and nature buffs are sure to find plenty to keep them busy. Take a Discovery Site Guided Hike at Prehistoric Trackways National Monument, Marrs to the Moon Plane Tour at Kilbourne Hole Crater or one of our other great tours.
