Runners, fitness fanatics and television fans of the hit show “The Biggest Loser” gear up for the Biggest Loser RunWalk Race in Las Cruces, New Mexico on January 18, 2015.
People can choose to participate in the half-marathon, 5k, or a kid’s 1 mile fun run. It’s a family-oriented event with plenty of activities for everyone to enjoy.
A health expo sponsored by Mountain View Regional Medical Center will be held prior to the race on Saturday, January 17th. The expo will have food and fitness vendors, several presentations for avid and first-time runners and a question and answer session with former contestants from the Biggest Loser. It will be held at the Las Cruces Convention Center from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is located at 680 East University Avenue.
In its inaugural year the event attracted 2,400 participants and more than 4,000 spectators. Seven former contestants from the popular reality television show were present at last year’s event to warm-up the crowd and kick-off activities.
Online registration is open until the evening of January 14, 2015. Walk-up registration for all the races (if the race has not sold out) will be available at the health expo during the packet pick-up period on January 17th. Register early to receive reduced fees. Early registration fees for the half-marathon race are $60 thru November 30th; $70 thru December 31st and $80.00 until January 14th. Early registration fees for the 5k race are $35 from November thru December 31st and $40 thru January 14th. Early registration for the kid’s 1 mile fun run (ages 4 through 14) is $10.
Fees after January 14th are $99.00 for the half-marathon, $45.00 for the 5k and $15 for the 1 mile fun run.
Each registered participant and finisher will receive a Biggest Loser Finisher’s Medal, commemorative technical t-shirt, drawstring backpack, chip-timed, and free downloadable race photos. There will be plenty water and sports drinks at hydration stations throughout the race, and all participants’ will receive food at the completion of the race. Entertainment will be provided by former contestant and country music recording artist Dan Evans.
Awards will be presented for overall male and female, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division as well as the top three in each age group, for each division. A Caboose award will be presented for participants finishing last in their divisions.
