Cirko de Mente, the Mexican contemporary circus company, will be in Las Cruces for an evening performance at the Rio Grande Theatre on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 7-8:30 p.m. The circus group is performing their latest show "Familia Rosso."
The show depicts a comical feud between two families for control of the “circus mafia.” Intended for audiences of all ages, the performance features contemporary circus techniques including clavas, juggling knives and hats, acrobatic pizzas, balance and aerial dance.
The group has performed internationally in places like the TOHU, City of Circus Arts in Montreal, Canada; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.; the Toursky Theatre in Marseille, France; the Fitdanz Iquique in Chile; the Igloolik, Iqaluit and Kuyuak in the Great North of Canada and circus conventions in Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Spain.
The show is the second event in a cultural exchange program between the City of Las Cruces and Mexico. The first event was a performance by the Latin Grammy Award Winning String Quartet, Cuarteto Latinoamericano, who performed recently at the Rio Grande Theatre. The event was free to the public and well attended. Several dignitaries from Mexico's Consulate General were in attendance as well as officials from the City of Las Cruces.
Cirko de Mente is sponsored by the Centro Cultural Mexicano and the City of Las Cruces. The event is free and seating is on a first come, first serve basis.
