Crafts for Kids

Time: 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Children of all ages are invited to come to the Museum and create their own holiday craft to take home. Regular admission is required for all family members: $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for children 4 to 17, and free admission for children 3 and under.

Stories of Holidays Past: Preparing for Christmas in New Mexico

The Museum’s annual December living history event offers visitors a retrospective view of New Mexico history during the Christmas season. The audience will enjoy several different holiday vignettes in the Museum’s theater with characters from various time periods in our state’s history. [*Admission is FREE].

Campfire Christmas Cookies
Date: December 10th
Time: 9:00 a.m. to noon
Enjoy this hands-on, interactive program where you invited to make and bake cookies using 1800's cooking tools and recipes. The camp cook, Dave, with assistance from volunteers, Evelyn and Nancy, will be on hand to help folks with mixing batters and dough, and showing how to use the old cast-iron, wafer-iron and Plett Pan to make some delicious treats. Children are welcome to join in the fun and share a cup of hot chocolate around the campfire. [*This activity is free with regular paid Museum admission].

Weaving for Children
Date: December 17th
Time: 9:00 a.m. to noon
Children and parents are invited to learn to weave using a paper loom. Yarn and a loom will be provided. Participants will learn how to weave a plain pattern to create a small woven creation they can take home. This activity is suited for children age 5 and up. [*Free with regular paid Museum admission, and no registration required].

A visit to the Museum provides several hours of fun combined with learning. With many exhibits and demonstrations -- indoors and outside -- there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Visitors of all ages will enjoy the demonstrations, such as blacksmithing, as well as our livestock tours. The demonstration schedule is subject to change, so please call ahead or check with the front desk to learn about that day's schedule.
Many of the museum's attractions are outdoors, so visitors are encouraged to take precautions against the sun, especially during the summer months, and dress warmly in the winter. Also, don't forget to bring your camera.
The museum is located just off Interstate 25 in Las Cruces at 4100 Dripping Springs Road.
