Come on down and join the fun on Saturday, November 10 as Las Cruces sets out to break the record for the World’s Largest Nachos, which at 4,689 pounds of nachos is currently held by Lawrence, Kansas.
Cheer your hometown on as Las Cruces turns heaps of cheese, pounds of tortilla chips, and mountains of chile into the world’s largest nachos. And we mean heaps!
What goes into 5,000 pounds of nachos?
How about 900 pounds of nacho chips, 450 pounds of salsa, 330 pounds of tomato, 200 pounds of burger meat, 600 pounds of cooked pinto beans, 2200 pounds of cheese...and a whole lot of jalapenos and green chile.
“Noche de Nachos”, which aptly translates to “Night of the Nachos”, will take place in downtown Las Cruces where nearly 5,000 pounds of nachos will be built for a crowd of intrigued spectators.

International Mariachi Showcase and Ballet Folklorico

The Las Cruces Mariachi Conference (LCIMC) has been a Las Cruces staple for 24 years. Each November the community celebrates and appreciates the cultural and visual arts during a five-day conference. The theatre boasts a ripe old age of 92-years of entertainment and continues to operate today within the heart of Las Cruces as the only two-story operational adobe theatre in the United States.

What’s the big deal about 5,000 pounds of nachos anyway?
[minti_spacer ]They are made of all locally sourced New Mexico products. This is no small feat. Ensuring the quality and care of New Mexican products is a job for the New Mexico Department of Agriculture (NMDA) as a producer-consumer service regulating the products that we consume here locally, and share with the world. NMDA developed the Taste the Tradition ® (TTT) and New Mexico – Grown with Tradition ® (GWT) programs to identify and promote New Mexico agricultural products, including food, fiber, wine, produce, nuts and livestock through one, easily recognizable logo. Purchasing local-grown products keeps dollars local and supports New Mexico agriculture. These nachos will not only be delicious, they will also be local—and that makes them nacho-average nachos.
NMDA started the program in 2000. We currently have over 300 members and we’re growing every year. “Serving” Our Community
[minti_spacer ]Not only is Noche de Nachos a competitive feat with all locally-sourced ingredients, but it is also one to help support our community. As attendees begin to be served the nachos after the official weigh in, 200 servings will also be prepared for the Las Cruces Gospel Rescue Mission. The Las Cruces Gospel Rescue Mission provides emergency food and lodging services 24 hours every day, without the use of tax dollars, to help re-assimilate the less fortunate into productive society.
Las Cruces Gospel Rescue Mission has a goal of $100,000 for their Family Housing Project. DATE AND TIME: November 10 - 5:30 pm - 10:00 pm at The Plaza de Las Cruces Gates will open at 5:30pm at the Plaza de Las Cruces, with the nacho build and live entertainment also starting at 5:30pm. The official weight announcement will be at 8:00pm, with the headliner Grupo Status coming on at 8:30pm. The event will end at 10:00pm. Entry costs are $15 for adults, and free for children 12 and under. Your meal of the world’s largest nachos is included with entry, all-you-can-eat while supplies last. Cash bar available.
