El Dia de los Muertos - “The Day of the Dead” - November 1-3
[minti_spacer height="25"]This Mexican celebration of those who have passed originated long ago during the time of the Aztecs. And there is nothing spooky about it. It is a beautiful and colorful holiday for families to honor their deceased loved ones with the very food, drink and activities that the dead loved ones enjoyed in life!
This traditional holiday takes place in historic Mesilla NM on the plaza where the locals will create altars with their relatives’ favorite things and photographs. It is believed the dead awake from eternal sleep to join in the celebration.There will be lots of music and food, original Day of the Dead artwork, face painting, dancers and more. This lively celebration is free and open to the public.Dates: The event begins Friday at 2 pm with music by Latin Funkation at 6:30 pm.
Saturday’s events begin at 10 am. Don’t miss the candlelight procession (All Soul’s Day evening) at 6:45 pm
Sunday hours are 10 am - 5 pm.

Renaissance ArtsFaire - November 2 - 3

Travel back in time at the Dona Ana Arts Council’s 48th Annual Renaissance ArtsFaire.
Join the Elizabethen era where you’ll be surrounded by costumed peasants and nobles alike enjoying the arts and crafts, amazing magicians, gnawing on turkey legs and and cheering and jeering the jousters on horseback.[minti_spacer height="25"][minti_image img="23904"][minti_spacer height="25"]This is a family-friendly event and period costumes are welcome! There will be plenty of delicious food, entertainment on two stages, a beer and wine garden, and a visit from Magellan the Dragon. Experience Middle Eastern Village and the Royal Realms where you’ll visit with knights and ladies and watch their period dance performances. The daily Royal Procession features everyone who is in costume. Jousting on horseback may get rowdy, so beware!
For the wee ones, there’s a special Children’s Realm with entertainment, a scavenger hunt, petting zoo, and canoe rides.[minti_spacer height="25"][minti_image][minti_spacer height="25"][minti_spacer height="25"][minti_image img="23906"][minti_spacer height="25"]Dates: Saturday, November 2, 10am - 5 pm

Get ready for some amazing art celebrating our gorgeous Southwest. Local pastel artist Renee Marz Mullis “speaks the language of light and color” through her pastels. She maintains a studio at the edge of the Organ Mountain Desert Peaks National Monument. Primarily a studio painter, she paints Southwest landscapes, interiors/exteriors, florals, still life and statement pieces. She strives to convey a strong sense of luminosity in her work. Hetty Smith was born in Holland and has worked in stain glass and fused glass for many years. Her love for stain glass started years ago growing up in Holland. She was inspired by the decorative stain glass windows found in many homes and churches in Europe. She has been a member of the Gallery for 15 years and has served as a Board Member of the Gallery. The 30 artists of the Gallery offer art in various media including original oil paintings, oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, fused glass art jewelry, unique one of a kind woodturnings, stained glass, photography, ceramics, mixed media, unusual decorated gourds, handmade textile weavings, art tile, affordable quality natural gemstone jewelry, handcrafted basket weavings, pencil, charcoal and ink drawings, prints, cards and miniature paintings.[minti_spacer height="25"][minti_image img="23907"][minti_spacer height="25"]Dates: November 1 - 30

This wonderful exhibit features serigraphs, relief prints, and lithographs by artists based primarily from El Paso, Albuquerque and Tucson. Sixteen Las Cruces based, Impress 2 Express, artists will also be featured. The exhibit is a print project by artist Karrl (Karl Whitaker) who commissioned his colleagues in order to create an exhibit featuring printmakers from the “Desert Triangle.” Stop in to experience a colorful and thought-provoking exhibit showing an array of styles."[minti_spacer height="25"][minti_image img="23909"][minti_spacer height="25"]Dates: November 1 - January 4, 2020
