Enjoy a classical music weekend with the likes of Latin Grammy winning string quartet Cuarteto Latinoamericano or the sounds of the Las Cruces Symphony and violin soloist Lindsay Deutsch.
The quartet will be performing at the the Rio Grande Theater on October 17th at 7 p.m. and Ms.Deutsch along with the symphony will be performing October 18th & 19th, at 7:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Cuarteto Latinoamericano ensemble is recognized world-wide and have performed extensively throughout Europe, the Americas, Israel, China, Japan and New Zealand. In 2012, the group earned the prestigious Latin Grammy for Best Classical Recording for their CD “Brasileiro, works of Mignone” on the Sono Luminus label. The sixth volume of their Villa-Lobos 17 quartet’s cycle, recorded for Dorian, was nominated for a Grammy award in 2002 in the field of Best Chamber Music Recording. Other accolades include awards from the Mexican Music Critics Association, and “most adventurous programming” awards from Chamber Music America and The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
The performance will take place at the Rio Grande Theater and is free to the public. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and seats will be available for general admission on a first come first serve basis. In addition to the quartet, visitors can enjoy the sounds of the Las Cruces Symphony at New Mexico State University. The symphony is performing its Classics Two concerto which features outstanding violinist soloist Lindsay Deutsch. Ms. Deutsch began her solo orchestral career at the age of 11 with the Clear Lake Symphony in Texas. She has performed throughout the U.S. and Canada with various symphonies, such as the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, California Philharmonic, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony, San Diego Chamber Orchestra, Knoxville Symphony, Boulder Chamber Orchestra, New West Symphony, McGill Chamber Orchestra in Montreal, National Academy Orchestra, and Oakville Symphony in Ontario, Canada. She regularly performs at the annual Siletz Bay Music Festival in Lincoln City, Oregon.
The performances include the opera piece, “An Outdoor Overture” scored by American Composer, Aaron Copland. Other orchestral pieces include the “Concerto for Violin,” composed by Max Bruch. This musical arrangement is his most famous composition. Another unique composition is “Rhapsody in Blue,” a 1924 musical composition by American composer George Gershwin. This particular musical piece combines elements of classical music with jazz-influenced effects. The symphony is closing out their performance with “Symphony No. 1,” composed by Russian Composer, Vasily Kalinnikov.
