Sunset Strolls

Enjoy a leisurely one-hour ranger-guided walk through sand dunes and learn about the geology, plants, and animals of this unique area. Reading Adventures
Date: December 18th - Janaury 1st, 2017

Jump into a lizard’s life, explore the mysteries of the dunes, or cozy up to desert creatures during this exciting ranger-led reading adventure. Join rangers in the visitor center as they read one of our favorite children’s books and guide kids through a related hands-on activity. This 30-45 minute program is perfect for junior rangers ages 5-10 years old. [*Program is free].

Lake Lucero Tour
Date: November 26th
Time: Saturday @ 10:00 a.m.
Have you ever wondered how the white sands formed? Take a tour to Lake Lucero with a ranger and learn about the formation of the sands and the special plants and animals that live in and around the dunes. A program fee of $8.00 per adult (16 years and older) and $4.00 for children (15 years and younger) applies. Reservations are required and can be made one month in advance of the tour.

Skins and Skulls

Join a ranger in the visitor center courtyard for a 20-minute talk about the amazing animals of White Sands. Rangers will have pelts, skulls, and other props to provide you an up-close look and feel of the elusive wildlife of White Sands. [*Program is free].

Visitor Center Hours

Monument Hours

November 6th – December 31st | Time: 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Dunes Drive will close to inbound traffic at one hour before the monument will close. The Highway 70 Gate and restrooms will close at the stated monument closing time.
White Sands National Monument, including the visitor center, park store, gift shop, and Dunes Drive will be closed on December 25th for the Christmas holiday.
The monument, including the visitor center, park store, and gift shop will be open on New Year’s Day from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Schedule is subject to change.
